“We are so pleased to be working with the Bruyère Foundation to raise funds in support of two important initiatives to improve care for patients in our community. This is a wonderful chance to help support an organization that has been a key player in providing critical patient care in our community,” says OutCare Foundation’s Christine Irvine, co-chair of Black Tie Bingo. “We’re working hard to deliver a fabulous evening of fun, terrific prizes while make a meaningful impact.”
Since 2014, Black Tie Bingo has raised more than $400,000 for critical end-of-life care in our community.
This year, the evening is raising funds for the Sharon Carstairs - OutCare Foundation Fellowship for Hospice Palliative Nursing recently established at Bruyère, a professional development program in palliative care, and the acquisition of the innovative ALTA Platform, a state-of-theart robotic patient transfer device, and other innovative equipment to improve the patient experience.
“Black Tie Bingo has been a significant fundraiser in our community,” says Tom Hewitt, President of the Bruyère Foundation and co-chair of Black Tie Bingo. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with OutCare Foundation on such a well-established event and want to give special thanks to event sponsors, volunteers and ticket purchasers for supporting the important work at Bruyère.”

More on this year’s fundraising beneficiaries
The Sharon Carstairs-OutCare Foundation Fellowship for Hospice Palliative Nursing which will be awarded in January 2024, was created to provide nurses at Bruyère an opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge, and expertise in palliative care and advance a project in their clinical area that will help to promote and advance a palliative approach to care. This endowed fellowship recognizes the Honourable Sharon Carstairs, PC, CM for her thirty years of leadership in the field of palliative care in Canada. The ALTA platform is a robotic patient transfer device that, akin to a standard hospital bed, leverages an automated sliding platform to transfer a reclining patient from bed to ALTA and back again. Where two staff were previously needed, the ALTA platform enables a single team member to reposition or transfer a patient in a safe and dignified manner while reducing injuries to our frontline workers.
