Lord Flatley
Flatley's Lord of the Dance

Those looking to start the new year off on the right foot (followed by the left and back to the right – you get the idea) ventured over to the NAC on Wednesday for a night of traditional Irish dance.

The OutCare Foundation’s sold-out fundraiser saw a crowd of 200 pay $175 for primo seats to Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance, raising more than $13,500 in support of hospice palliative care.

The evening started with a party in the Panorama Room where harpist Mary Muckle worked her musical magic. As an added treat, dancers Mairead McCargo and Damien Doherty left their two-hour pre-show practice for a Q&A with the crowd. Several guests likely kicked up their own heels after winning such prizes as a return flight to Emerald Isle from Zoom Airlines.

On hand were OutCare Foundation executive director Gail Carroll, board vice-chairman John Bradley of J.T. Bradley’s and Ralph Chapman of title sponsor IBM. Also spotted were Cumberland Councillor Rob Jellett, volunteer Michelle Begin, and such board members as Wilf Brousseau, co-founder of BMR Group, Dave Ready of the Ottawa Senators Foundation; John Bergeron, owner of a string of McDonald’s restaurants in the Upper Ottawa Valley ; and Brian MacGregor of the family-owned Browns Cleaners, with his folks, Malcolm and Heather and his wife, Bonni.

Sherry Stone of Brockville Ontario was the lucky winner of ZOOM Airlines Return Airfare for 2 to Ireland

CELEBRATION OF LIFE 2006

“Celebration of Life” 2006 took place on October 17 at the Ottawa Congress Centre. This year’s event was a tremendous success that realized $178,000 for the group of benefiting hospice palliative care programs in the region.

Hosted by the OutCare Foundation and in partnership with the Ottawa Senators Foundation, the high spirited evening welcomed Master of Ceremonies, Leanne Cusack of CTV Ottawa and auctioneer extraordinaire, Kent Browne of Royal LePage. The festivities included gourmet food, draws for jewelry and a ZOOM Airlines return trip for two to England. Great prizes and silent and live auction items that included Dinner for 16 at the British High Commission Residence created plenty of excitement. Presenting sponsor Desjardins Pharmacy along with 500 enthusiastic guests were entertained by the magic of Smith & Quick, the whimsy of Matt Ficner and his puppet “Duzz-Good”, the Oto-Wa Taiko Drummers and renowned jazz pianist Brian Browne.

The Celebration of Life program has injected over $400,000 into hospice palliative care programs since its inception in 2004.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE – October 2004

The OutCare Foundation presents "Celebration of Life, 2004" along with the Ottawa Senators Foundation and helps raise $100,000 for the Palliative Care Outreach Program

On October 5, the OutCare Foundation partnered with the Ottawa Senators Foundation to jointly present, “Celebration of Life” – a cocktail party and variety show in support of the Palliative Care Outreach Program (PCOP). As part of the OutCare Foundation's commitment to supporting out-of-hospital care in our community, the Foundation matched the amount raised through the "Celebration of Life" to present the PCOP with a cheque for $100,000.

Hosted by Max Keeping, CJOH-TV's News Director, over 300 people attended the event at the Ottawa Congress Centre. Proceeds from ticket sales as well as "live" and silent auctions raised $50,000. With the matching funds from the OutCare Foundation, the Palliative Care Outreach Program received a cheque for $100,000. This funding will be used to help Dr. Margaret Farncombe, Medical Director and Founder of the PCOP, and her dedicated staff maintain the services they compassionately deliver to terminally ill patients and their families in our region.

The OutCare Foundation was delighted to partner with the Ottawa Senators Foundation and other local businesses to support the PCOP in its work and to help improve the availability of out-of-hospital palliative care in our community
